Thank you for the comment! I’m not sure I agree with this. I think emotions are a bit like wildfires. We can’t control when the sparks fly and something bursts into flames — but if we put out the fire while it’s still small, there won’t be a big patch of scorched earth. If we let it rage and don’t give it much attention or effort, of course, it’ll keep burning and burning — and hurting and hurting. Not sure if this makes sense, but what I’m trying to say is: I think how long this “life of its own” of emotional pain lasts depends a great deal on how we choose to deal with it (or whether we do so at all).
