I think you’re overthinking it. Just be honest. Say: “Yes, sometimes people at work don’t get how awesome Mom is and that sucks. But Mom kicks ass so much that sooner or later, they’ll see they better listen to her.”

I get that you want to teach your kids to not be held back by stereotypes. But be careful not to teach them these stereotypes don’t exist. Because they do. They’ll be hit smack in the face when they enter the real world if they don’t know.

I think it’s important for kids to learn that going against the grain DOES come with a lot of struggle — but that it’s a struggle worth embracing.

In some arenas, we have to earn our respect with more sweat than in others.

They can’t learn that if you make it seem like it’s all sunshine and rainbows.
